A downloadable game

A  grief-stricken Daedalos is forced to escape a maze of his own creation after the loss of his nephew Icarus. An experimental procedural puzzle VR game

Daedalos the Toymaker is an experimental project made by my brother and me funded by VAF. We explore the viability of a procedural puzzle game in a VR space.

The narrative of a bewildered Daedalus maneuvering through a constantly changing labyrinth fits the gameplay of ever changing yet familiar spaces, where building up knowledge of the environment is the only way to make progress.

It was an ambitious project and while it shows promise in its current state, its too early to conclude if the design philosophy holds up.

Nevertheless it was an exciting and educational journey!

Note: this is an experimental prototype not a fully realized game

The rooms look great and create a nice atmosphere of ancient times as well as being claustrophobic.

I didn't know what an 'amforae' is but guessed it was one of the 'vases' while playing.

Can I have a clue to solve the 'zero swan,  one horse' room? I spent half an hour putting the 4 animal statues in a row and swapping the bulls and deer on the remaining plynths but nothing.

Hi Dobsy, it's great that you took the time to try out this experiment! Unfortunately since all rooms are procedurally generated, I can not give an exact solution.

However I can spoil the mechanics: there are three possible item types (vases, toys and statues) that have to be matched depending on either a number (SPOILER: check for patterns in vase handles, statue legs or symbols on toys) or associated god. Each puzzle will be either a 'number' or 'god' type puzzle and needs a set of one type of object to match another.  In case there are Mosaic walls in the room, you might need to match the number to that of the mosaic, but thats  a different puzzle entirely.

Hope this helps!
